Heidelberg’s Primefire 106 demonstrated at MPS-WestRock’s open house in Germany

PKBR Staff Writer Published 24 November 2017

Packaging firm MPS-WestRock has demonstrated Heidelberg’s Primefire 106 inkjet printing system at an open house hosted in Germany.

The event, which has hosted by MPS-WestRock and jointly organized with Heidelberg at the beginning of November, was attended by more than 70 customers from 40 packaging manufacturers from Europe.

MPS-WestRock, which is a part of the WestRock packaging group, is engaged in producing high-end packaging for consumer goods products in the luxury segment.

The firm has purchased the Heidelberg’s Primefire 106 in the 70x100 cm format. The system is designed provide high density of 1200dpi or more than 10 billion dots per printed sheet for digital packaging printers.

MPS-WestRock managing director Steffen Schnizer said: “For a long time, digital printing presses were not able to meet our customers’ high standards for quality and color fidelity. The Heidelberg Primefire 106 meets these requirements.”

Featuring Fujifilm’s Samba drop-on-demand inkjet technology, the new system allows operators to master shrinking runs and increase variants.

It also allows operators to respond immediately to changing requirements such as different language versions, packaging sizes and last minute changes.

The system also features unique sheet transport system for undisturbed operation and unbeatable registration; Prinect Digital Center Inline for fast, process-oriented setup; and Prinect Digital Frontend for seamless integration into existing processes.

Heidelberg is considering whether to expand the production capacity of Primefire 106 in order to meet the strong demand.

The second machine will be going to another customer in Germany this year, while the third will be going to a customer abroad at the beginning of next year.
