McGowans Print to install EFI’s single-pass inkjet press at Dublin facility

PKBR Staff Writer Published 12 May 2017

McGowans Print will install a new single-pass LED inkjet corrugated board press from Electronics For Imaging (EFII) in its Dublin facility in Ireland.

Dubbed EFI Nozomi C18000, the press is only the second in the EFI Nozomi range to be installed in the world.

It is expected to help McGowans with the capability to seize new growth opportunities when it comes to short-run corrugated packaging and display production.

McGowans is claimed to be the largest digital print facility in Ireland and regarded as one of the highly advanced digital print facilities in Europe.

The 1.8m EFI Nozomi C18000 press is claimed to yield cost-effective and profitable results in digital printing for short- and medium-run production.

It can print up to 246 linear feet per minute, producing up to 77,758ft2 per hour. EFI Nozomi C18000 is claimed to have the ability to print at full press-rated speeds on materials like 14-point card stock, triple-wall board such as conventional Kemi, model, bleach and kraft materials.

EFI CEO Malcolm McGowan said: "We researched all the single-pass technology available for large-format printing, and the EFI Nozomi press was the best in class by far for our applications.

"The press checks all the boxes for point-of-sale applications and it allows us to quickly enter the packaging market as well."

EFI Nozomi C18000 is claimed by its manufacturer to be the first and only ultra-high-speed, singe-pass corrugated inkjet press to be certified for OCC recyclability and repulpability by the Western Michigan University Recycling, Paper and Coating Pilot Plant.
