Edson to unveil new robotic mixed-product case packing solution at Pack Expo

PKBR Staff Writer Published 07 September 2017

Pro Mach’s subsidiary Edson is set to introduce new robotic mixed-product case packing solution at the Pack Expo in Las Vegas, US.

The solution is cliamed to offer the speed and flexibility needed for e-commerce fulfillment and food packing.

At the event, the company will showcase Fanuc M-20iA robot solution, which can pick different sized cartons from a conveyor and side-loading packages into large shipping cases.

The new robotic flexible case packer will determine the optimum pack pattern for each mixed lot based on customer selections.

Fanuc M-20iA robot is incorporated with the high-speed multi-servo controlled Edson SR 3600 large case and tray packer that features Rockwell Automation technology.

The system includes Sick barcode reader that will trace out acceptable cases, as each case will be discharged from the packer.

Balluff IO-Link enabled sensors offer diagnostic and statistical information, while Festo IO-Link and Ethernet valve terminals control all the pneumatics on the SR 3600.

According to the company, IO-Link components are foundational to the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), which allow faster installation and create less cluttered machine.

Edson collaborated with Balluff to use an IO-Link wireless coupler to change between two tools, of which one will show multi-product orders and the other will select promotional products.

Edson engineering vice president Mike Paskaruk said: "The product flexibility of this case packer to be able to accommodate all types of shapes and sizes will allow e-commerce businesses and food companies to easily configure multi-product orders.

“Edson continually works with customers in advancing market spaces to provide innovative turnkey case packaging solutions that enhance end of line operations."
